Round three of the 2011 Topspeed Automotive Street Eliminator series was staged during the Summer Nationals at Santa Pod. Of the eleven car field, four did not qualify for the elimination rounds mainly due to not successfully completing the mandatory cruise.
New personal bests were set by Andy Bond, who has now pushed his Mustang into the 8s,
and Alan Williamson who was competing in Street Eliminator for the first time this season.
Qualifying proved to be somewhat of a tactical affair with one team seemingly approaching things with a pre-determined strategy, and at the end of the four sessions it was Ian Hook who occupied the top spot,
with Brian Payne and Dave Murdoch lying in second and third places respectively.
With so many cars out of the running some drivers benefited from bye runs in the eliminations but despite the lack of pressure still ran the numbers their cars are capable of. Unsurprisingly the final saw a matching of the two fastest cars of the meeting, Brian Payne’s Mustang and Ian Hook’s ‘34 Ford.
The latter was running straight and true, following the modifications made to its chassis over the winter, and took the win with an 8.26/164 pass. Brian Payne still heads up the points championship table but that win has shot Ian Hook up from 7th to 2nd place.
