Round 5, BugJam, Santa Pod Raceway

July 18th-19th 2009

.

The annual July trip to the festival/race meeting that is the Bug Jam looked promising with the return of Martin Taylor and Ian Hook to help swell the numbers and the news that this years event was a complete sell-out meaning that there would be 32,500 people there!

Sadly the British weather stepped in and spoiled the fun. The Street Eliminator drivers only managed to complete Saturday qualifying before the rain came down. Despite some dry spells on Sunday none were long enough to provide any track time.

Colin Lazenby took pole with Jeff Meads in second place so both have closed the gap on Matts Anderson slightly but the overall positions remain unchanged. Ian Hook and the FB Racing team were disappointed when, despite a huge effort (they actually finished putting the ’34 together at the track on Friday/Saturday!) the weather prevented them making a run on Sunday.

The next meeting is the three-day Open Sports Nationals at Shakespeare County Raceway in mid-August which should see an increase in numbers with the return of some ‘old boys’ and the possible debut of a new car. Stay tuned for that – this season is far from over.
