It was back to Santa Pod for round two of the 2011 Topspeed Automotive Street Eliminator Series, this time staged during the Main Event at the end of May. Ten cars attended and once again it was the Mustang of Brian Payne that was setting the bar with an 8.21 straight off the trailer. Later in the day though it was Steve Pateman’s Calibra, returning to the series following a year’s break, that took over the number one qualifying spot with a blistering 7.89/182.
Stuart Williams’ Supra dipped into the 8s for the first time,
and an 8.20 from Ian Hook’s 1934 Ford moved Brian Payne down into 3rd place. Things didn’t stay like that for long though as in the final qualifying session Brian Payne’s new personal best of 7.80 saw him back as number one qualifier.
It was well into the evening when the first round of eliminations was run and Brian Payne ran even quicker still with an awesome 7.72 second pass – on a bye! There were also wins for Jeff Meads’ Pop, Alex McIntosh’s Mustang, Steve Pateman’s Calibra and Ian Hook’s coupe. Sadly though that proved to be the last of the action as rain on the Monday resulted in the day’s racing being cancelled.
